Football Game Day: Clear Bags, Parking and More /news/football-game-day-everything-need-know/ Wed, 14 Sep 2016 14:48:27 +0000 /news/?p=74016 The UCF Knights football team takes on the Big 10’s Maryland Terrapins at Bright House Networks Stadium at 7 p.m. Saturday. Here’s everything you need to know, from pregame fun to parking, for the annual Family Weekend game.

Clear Bag Policy

The clear bag policy remains in effect at the stadium to provide a safer environment and expedite the entry process. Fans are encouraged not to bring any bags, but if they do, only these are allowed:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″
  • One-gallon clear plastic storage/freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small purses and clutch bags no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″ (roughly the size of an adult hand)
  • Tickets

±őłŮ’s family weekend, when lots of parents and siblings are on campus, so tickets are going fast. As always, students get in free. But if you’re a student and you haven’t bought guest passes yet, don’t wait or your family could miss out.

Guest Passes can be purchased for $25 at the CFE Arena Box office – due to construction, enter through Jimmy John’s and proceed into the CFE Arena lobby – or at the box office on the west side of the stadium.

For all others, call 407-UCF-1000 or check here for more information about season ticket packages and single-game tickets.

    Timeline

There’s plenty of fun planned outside the stadium before kickoff, including family-friendly games and inflatables, giveaways and food trucks from Burger U, Cousins Maine Lobster and Sweet City Gelato.

11 a.m.: Check-in begins for tailgating on Memory Mall. Tailgating starts in all lots at noon.

3:30 p.m.: The first of three shows by the Monster Motocross Team begins.

4 p.m.: Hypersona, the opening act of the free UCF Tailgate Concert Series presented by FM 96.9 The Game, takes the stage at IOA Plaza. They’ll be followed by headliner Cowboy Mouth, a New Orleans-based band known for its fusion of alternative, roots rock, and jam band influences.

4:45 p.m.: Fans can watch the Knight Walk from IOA Plaza on the west side of the stadium as the team arrives and walks around the stadium.

5:30 p.m.: The Marching Knights band marches down Memory Mall and stops to play school songs in front of the CFE Arena before joining Knightro, Pegasus and the Spirit Squad in leading the March to Victory down East Plaza Drive to the stadium.

Parking and Traffic – Friday and Saturday

On game day, parking is free for fans in red and blue zones, which includes Garages A and I, all B lots (near Millican Hall and Libra Drive) and Lots H1-H4 (near the Performing Arts Center).

Gold Zone lots near the stadium require a game day parking permit. For those with a Gold Zone permit, E Lots, Baseball and Softball lots, and Garage F will open at 8 a.m. All other campus lots and garages will open at noon.

As a reminder, UCF will continue to offer $20 cash parking in Garage H on game days, which will be available to all fans. The proceeds fund first-generation scholarships.

To expedite postgame traffic, North Orion Boulevard will only be open to traffic traveling from Gemini Boulevard to McCulloch Road starting at 8:30 p.m. Saturday until postgame traffic is cleared. Vehicles will not be able to enter campus from McCulloch Road during that time. Among others, this will impact residents of Towers III and IV and those who park in Garage E, who should plan accordingly.

    Shuttles

Fans can avoid game day traffic by parking at Research Pavilion and catching a Park and Ride shuttle. Fans may park at the Research Pavilion building, located at 12424 Research Parkway in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent to campus, and be transported to parking lot D1 near Memory Mall. The shuttles start two hours before kickoff and end two hours after the game ends.

Shuttles will continue to pick up students from all the apartment complexes around campus that are normally serviced, except for NorthView, Tivoli and Northgate because they’re so close to the stadium.

Other shuttles will service the Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona, Rosen College and Palm Valley.

    Tailgating

This season, prime tailgating spots on Memory Mall are again available to students and alumni only through the Knights on the Mall online reservation system. All spaces are already reserved for Saturday’s game. For the rest of the season, the reservation system will open at 6 p.m. on the Sunday before each home game. The spots go fast, so be ready.

Only Memory Mall requires reservations. Knights fans are welcome to tailgate without reservations in any other allowed areas on campus, and all fans are still welcome to enjoy the other activities on Memory Mall.

Here’s what you need to know to enjoy the game – and all the fun activities before kickoff.

    New Clear Bag Policy

UCF has implemented a clear bag policy at the stadium to provide a safer environment and expedite the entry process. Fans are encouraged not to bring any bags, but if they do, only these are allowed:

Frost and his coaching staff won’t be the only new things at the stadium on game day. First, at 4:45 p.m., is Knight Walk, when the team marches through IOA Plaza on their way to the stadium.

Fans will want to be inside the stadium by 6:30 p.m. for the unveiling of a bigger and better high-definition video board and sound system. Then, following the National Anthem, turn your eyes skyward for a flyover by a massive U.S. Air Force HC-130. And if that’s not enough: There will be fireworks before the game and after every Knights touchdown.

Season ticket packages and single-game tickets are going fast but still available. Call 407-UCF-1000.

    Tailgating

This season, prime tailgating spots on Memory Mall are again available by reservation to students and alumni. And there are 330 spaces available this year – 80 more than in 2015. Parking is free for fans on campus, although the Gold Zone lots near the stadium require a game day parking permit.

For those with a Gold Zone parking permit, E Lots and Garage F will open at 8 a.m. All other campus lots will open at noon.

10 Things to Know About UCF’s Season-Opener vs FIU /news/10-things-to-know-about-ucfs-season-opener-vs-fiu/ /news/10-things-to-know-about-ucfs-season-opener-vs-fiu/#comments Tue, 01 Sep 2015 03:58:27 +0000 /news/?p=67898 The UCF Knights will host Florida International şŁ˝ÇÖ±˛Ą at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, for the season-opener in a game televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

Here’s everything students, staff and faculty members, alumni and fans need to know to get up to speed on game day.

When Will Classes Conclude and Game Day Activities Start?

Because of the early kickoff time for this first game, classes on the main campus, in the Central Florida Research Park, at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management and on UCF’s regional campuses will conclude at noon. Offices at those locations also will close for normal operations at noon.

Campus parking lots will open to fans at 1 p.m., when tailgating activities may begin.

Where Can Faculty, Staff and Students Park for the Entire Day?

They can stay in many campus parking lots and garages after classes have concluded. Those areas include garages A, B and I, the Libra Garage and lots B5-6, B9, B12 and H4.

Where Is Towing Enforced on Game Days?

All vehicles without a valid football game day permit in garages C, D, F and H and lots B4, C1-C2, D1-D2 and E1-E8 are subject to towing beginning at 1 p.m.

    What’s New on Memory Mall?

For the first time, all tailgating spaces on Memory Mall are reserved for students and alumni. The spaces were so popular they were snapped up just hours after reservations opened. Due to canceled reservations or no shows, a small number of spaces may be available to students and alumni on game day. However, other fans cannot show up on game day and set up a tent on Memory Mall.

The Student Government Association, now located in the center section of the mall, is offering expanded entertainment options, a cool zone and food trucks open to all fans.

Where Can I Set Up My Tent If I Don’t Have a Space on Memory Mall?

Anywhere else! (except in parking garages).

    Anything Special for Alumni?

Yes! Visit the UCF Fairwinds Alumni Center starting at 3 p.m. for an Indoor Tailgate. You’ll find food from Bubbalou’s Bodacious Bar-B-Que, a kid-friendly game room and live DJ. Not to mention air conditioning and clean restrooms. Just bring your key card – if you need one – and driver’s license.

How Can I Support First-Generation Students on Game Day?

We offer $20 cash parking on game days in Garage H, which will be available to all fans. Since 2011, we have raised more than $200,000 for first-generation scholarships through Garage H proceeds.

Can I Bring My Drone on Game Day?

Leave your drone at home. For the safety of fans, it’s prohibited on the UCF campus on game days.

    Did Traffic Patterns Change?

After a two-year customer service survey, traffic patterns after the game are changing to help fans exit campus as quickly as possible.

Traffic will not be able to enter the campus via North Orion Boulevard starting at the end of the first quarter while the road is set up to handle exiting traffic on all four lanes.

Can I Take a Shuttle to the Game?

On game day, UCF will operate the student shuttles that normally serve off-campus apartment complexes, except for Tivoli, Northgate and NorthView (routes 6 and 13) because of their close proximity to the stadium. Except for those routes, shuttles will run starting at 1 p.m. and conclude two hours after the game ends. Please note there is no room on the shuttles for large items like coolers, tents and lawn chairs.

All fans can use UCF’s park-and-ride shuttles on game day. The shuttles will pick up passengers at the Research Pavilion in the Central Florida Research Park starting at 4 p.m.

Tailgating List: Burgers, Brats – and Reservations Starting Monday /news/tailgating-list-burgers-brats-and-reservations-starting-monday/ Thu, 13 Aug 2015 20:08:52 +0000 /news/?p=67640 With exclusive access to many of the campus’ prime tailgating spaces, UCF students and alumni can reserve their spaces on Memory Mall starting Monday morning.

Registration for tailgating spaces for the Knights’ home opener will begin at 10 a.m. Monday. Tailgating activities for the UCF-FIU game on Sept. 3 will begin at 1 p.m., and the game will kick off at 6 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Students and alumni can select their tailgating spaces for free by clicking on the registration buttons at ucfsga.com/knightsonthemall.

For the first time, Memory Mall also will be the home of several food trucks on game days, as well as live bands in the Student Government Association tailgating area and giveaways for students each game. At each game, a Tailgater of the Week will win a UCF-themed tent and other gear already set up in a guaranteed reserved space at the following game.

Student spaces will be in the two sections closest to the Student Union. Alumni spaces will be closest to the CFE Arena. Reservations for each game will be taken separately.

The Student Government Association and the university have worked together, with support from the UCF Alumni Association and UCF Athletics, to develop the new tailgating experience.

Below are a handful of key questions and answers about the changes:

    Why was the change made?

Students and alumni no longer will have to arrive several hours before tailgating begins to land a coveted spot on Memory Mall. Fans can check in starting one hour before tailgating activities begin, or they can wait until as late as three hours before kickoff to arrive.

Can students and alumni sign up for specific spaces?

Yes. They can select a space from the map on the registration website.

Does everyone in my group need to be a student or alumnus/alumna?

No. Only one person must be a student or alumnus/alumna to make a reservation. UCF will verify student/alumni status for all who make reservations. The person who makes the reservation must be the one to check in for the group on game day.

    What does my reservation include?

It guarantees a designated tailgating spot on game day. Fans must provide their own tents and other tailgating gear. Student reservations include a complimentary parking pass for Garage H provided by the Student Government Association.

Will I be able to register for a space on game day?

Unreserved spaces (if any) will be available to students and alumni starting at check-in time – noon for the FIU game. Those interested should go to the student check-in table.

Where can fans who do not have reservations tailgate?

They can set up their tents anywhere on campus except for Memory Mall. All fans are still welcome to enjoy the food trucks and live entertainment on Memory Mall.
