UCF Conservatory Theatre\u2019s latest offering cruises onto the Black Box stage this evening for the opening of \u201cDames At Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n
With book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller and music by Jim Wise, \u201cDames At Sea\u201d is a musical comedy inspired by 1930s Hollywood director and choreographer Busby Berkeley.\u00a0 \u201cDames At Sea\u201d pays homage to \u201c42nd Street,\u201d complete with the theme of a young girl going to Broadway and making it big — plus an abundance of musical numbers, dancing and tapping.<\/p>\n
The show opens Thursday, Nov. 18, and will run through Sunday, Dec. 5., on UCF\u2019s main campus. All performances are scheduled in UCF\u2019s smaller Black Box Theatre.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an intimate setting for an intimate musical,\u201d says Earl Weaver, the show\u2019s director and UCF\u2019s coordinator of Musical Theatre.<\/p>\n
Weaver adds that this \u201cfamily-friendly, lighthearted romp\u201d will not only be fun and entertaining, but it also will be eligible to participate in the well-revered American College Theatre Festival, or ACTF.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve never been able to have a full musical submitted for ACTF, so \u2018Dames At Sea\u2019 is the perfect opportunity to do so,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Performances of\u00a0 \u201cDames At Sea\u201d will be Thursdays through Sundays from Nov. 18 until Dec. 5.<\/p>\n
All shows begin at 8 p.m., except for the Sunday matinee, which will start at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
